Description:

Description for B&B:

Located in the heart of the countryside in Poitou Charentes, 60 km south of the Loire, you will find the charming medieval village of Airvault. Jo Cottrell extends a warm and relaxed welcome to guests at The Voltaire Bed and Breakfast, a beautiful 19th Century mansion home.

The Voltaire, situated near the center of Airvault, features 4 spacious double and twin bedrooms, each individually styled and furnished. All rooms are equipped with en-suite bathrooms for your convenience. Our main focus at The Voltaire is to ensure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, whether it's for a night, a few days, a week, or even longer. Many guests have found the soft air and comfort of The Voltaire so inviting that they end up sleeping longer than expected. As a result, we serve breakfast as late as 12pm.

Each of our guest bedrooms includes a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. We provide thick bath sheets, hand towels, and handmade soaps for your comfort. The beds are either kingsize or twin single beds, with 100% cotton bed linen and soft Egyptian cotton duvet covers. The mattresses are deep sprung to ensure the right level of support and comfort. For families with children under 12, we can arrange for a temporary bed to be placed in your room. All rooms have ample storage space for your clothes and are furnished with comfortable chairs.

The Voltaire also offers a cozy library with an open fire during the winter, featuring a selection of books and board games. Additionally, we have a more tranquil sitting room with a cooler atmosphere. When the weather permits, our outdoor spaces are perfect for relaxation. The walled garden at the back of the property enjoys the morning sun, providing an ideal spot for breakfast on the lawn. As the sun moves, the garden offers shade during the hottest part of the day, keeping it cool. The front area of the house features a raised swimming pool, perfect for enjoying the sun throughout the day.

Our continental breakfast includes freshly baked croissants and baguettes from local bakeries, as well as Airvault honey, homemade marmalade and conserves, fruit juice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Upon request, we also offer evening meals consisting of 4 courses, accompanied by wine or soft drinks and coffee. The price is 22 euros per adult and 12 euros per child under 12. We strive to use seasonal and local ingredients, so the menu varies day to day and with the time of year. We can also provide picnics with advanced notice.

In this idyllic and unspoilt part of France, we benefit from a high amount of sunshine each year, second only to the Côte d'Azur. Additionally, we are located in the heart of the largest sunflower growing region in France, adding to the area's beauty. Airvault village offers a range of amenities within a short walk, including bakeries, butchers, restaurants, bars, banks with cash machines, a chemist, and a local produce market every Saturday morning.

Surrounded by historic towns and villages, beautiful countryside, and swimming lakes, The Voltaire is also conveniently located near popular attractions such as Futuroscope, Vallée des Singes, Puy du Fou, and La Venise Verte. Furthermore, being only 60 km south of the Loire Valley, there are numerous chateaux and vineyards to explore. This is just a small taste of what the area has to offer, and you can find more details on our website.

We provide unlimited free WiFi access and offer online real-time bookings through our website.

Directions

GPS Coordinates:

Latitude: 46° 49' 32" N
Longitude: 00° 08' 21" W

If you are coming from Poitiers, follow the D725 road into Airvault. Look for signs indicating Centre Ville. Pass the Gendarmerie on the right, go downhill, and continue past the Church and Market Hall, also on the right. At the end of the road, you will reach a roundabout. There, you will see Groupama on the right side. Our location is opposite Groupama, with the Hotel du Cygne across the street. There are recycling bins on the corner next to our garage. You can park in front of the house or garage, but if it's full, there is a public car park diagonally opposite on the other side of the roundabout.

If you are coming from Parthenay, Bressuire, or Thouars, take the D725 road towards Airvault. Ignore the first turning signposted Airvault Centre Ville, which has 4 flagpoles and the town's name in flowers at the junction. Keep going straight on the D725 road. Pass the town name, cross the river, and just after crossing, you will encounter a sharp right-hand corner with a left turn. Take this turning onto D27 Rue de la Gare. Go over the level crossing and keep left at the fork. This will lead you to a roundabout. On the roundabout, you will see the Hotel du Cygne on your right and a car park on your left. Groupama will be on the third corner, and our house is located on the other corner.
