People with diverse interests and needs can enjoy wonderful holidays or long weekends with us.Anjeux is situated 5 km west of Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse and approximately 30 km north of Vesoul. Perched at an elevation of 242 m, the village lies in the northernmost part of the department, within the Chanois stream valley west of the lowlands of Planey, on the edge of the Vosges plateau.
Covering an area of 8.71 km², the commune spans a somewhat hilly landscape on the outskirts of the Vosges. To the east, the commune is bordered by the Planey lowlands, which originate from a karst source and flow approximately 7 km southward into the Semouse river. The average elevation of the valley floor is around 235 m, spanning about one kilometer in width. Within the region of Anjeux, the Planey stream is joined by the Dorgeon and Chanois tributaries. To the east, the boundary is marked by the hillock of the Fays forest, with an elevation of 303 m, which acts as a watershed in the Semouse valley.
In the northwest, the commune extends into the Chanois stream valley and the hills near Haute de Calenne and Charmot, reaching an elevation of approximately 260 m. The northern boundary is delineated by the La Levue forest.
Neighboring towns of Anjeux include Dampvalley-Saint-Pancras and Cuve to the north, Girefontaine to the west, La Pisseure, Plainemont, and Jasney to the south, and Bouligney and Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse to the east.
The region has a rich history, dating back to the Roman era. During the Middle Ages, Anjeux was a part of the Free County of Burgundy. Since 1271, it has been under various dominions, with Anjeux serving as the center. Over time, it fell partially under the influence of the Luxeil-les-Bains abbey and the Faucogney family. Following the peace treaty of Nijmegen in 1678, Anjeux became a part of Franche-Comté under French rule.
The Church of Anjeux, built in the flamboyant Gothic style during the 15th and 16th centuries, is classified as a historical monument. The 19th-century wash house is also a notable landmark. South of the road from Anjeux to Bouligney, towards the Planey lowlands, you can still find remnants of the La Sarrasinière castle in a small grove.
The Planey source is a must-see tourist attraction, known for its mesmerizing display of blue and green hues that vary depending on the weather.
